All about classification of Internal combustion engine.
Internal combustion engine:
An internal combustion engine is a heat engine that burns the fuel in the presence of air in a combustion chamber and converts that into mechanical energy. The chemical energy is converted into mechanical energy by combustion.
The three main components of internal combustion engine are:
1.Cylinder head.
2.Cranckcase.
3.Cylinder block.
First fuel is converted into thermal energy and then next thermal energy is converted into kinetic energy.
Based on the motion of piston it is classified into two types:
1.Reciprocating engine.(reciprocating motion)
2.Rotary engine.(rotational motion)
Based on the mechanism of ignition it is classified into two types:
1.Spark ignition engine.
2.Compression engine.
Spark ignition engine:
A high voltage spark is given to initiate combustion.
Compression engine:
At high pressure fuel self ignites itself.
Based on the number of strokes it is classified into two types:
1.Two stroke engine.
2.Four stroke engine.
Based on the method of "charging": it is classified into two types:
1.Naturally aspirated engine.
2.Supercharged engine.
Naturally aspirated engine:
Air or fuel mixture is introduced into the chamber at near atmospheric pressure.
Supercharged engine:
Air or fuel mixture is introduced into the chamber at higher atmospheric pressure.
By mechanical/thermodynamic cycle :
1.Atkision cycle.
2.Miller cycle
