The most significant change in the design is the front body,it looks softer and more elegant. There are IQ lights which is VW speak for matrix adaptive leds, they have a host of functions and a new DRL signature now over here. The wheels are still 18 inches in size but they are a new design and as you move over to the side it's more of the same, lot of lines and chrome around the window now over to the back again. It's a familiar sight the tail lights are of the same shape more or less but they have new designs inside and there's a lot more chrome in the bumper.
Tiguan is now written in the centre and you will notice the slightly flatter volkswagen logo.Your luggage needs are well catered to as well now as before there is a powered tailgate under which you will find a massive 650 litre boot if you want more space still the seats split and fold and under here you will find a space saver. Spare tires and the boot is not the only spacious part of this car. Now the back seat should be a big draw if you're in the market for one of these cars, because space here is just tremendous. There's plenty of headroom, there's plenty of knee room. There's great under thigh sport and even the cushioning is really comfortable apart from that there's a little bit of flexibility built into it .For instance, the lever near the seat let you adjust the backrest if you don't like it so reclined like I don't and if you want to free up a bit more space in the boot you can slide the whole thing back and forth to free up more space there. That is of course the big panoramic sunroof three zone climate control a usb type c charger and a 12V socket and a new addition a little place to dock your phone.
The latest generation from volkswagen it looks a lot more modern and contemporary and finally a departure from that same old steering wheel we've been seeing for the last 10 years it's wrapped in leather of course and it's got nice well crafted buttons that are nice to use and sitting behind it are a pair of paddle shifters as well then, there's the all digital instrument cluster 10 inches across very crisp and customizable you can choose one of three different display settings your conventional dual dials plus a pair of very abstract looking displays. There's the new way you operate the automatic climate control system where once were three knobs that were easy to grab onto and use there is now a touch slider for both temperature and fan speed it requires you to take your eye off the road to find the spot and that's just a bit inconvenient the 8 inch touchscreen uses volkswagen's new infotainment system. It works really well it's got apple carplay and android auto as before but it's not wireless android auto and apple carplay speaking of cables you have to now make sure you have a usb type c cable on both ends or an adapter to suit because all three usb ports in this car one two and one in the back are type c ports a minor change
The new gear lever that is illuminated on the lever itself and shows you which state
of drive you're in.It looks very nice and goes well with the rest of the centre console and also includes the rotary drive mode selector. The drive modes return from before and include a number of terrain modes as well as driving modes for the road,
eco, normal, sport and individual are another feature addition to,that you cannot choose the colour of the ambient lighting in the cabin where previously you were only stuck with white and just to make sure you've covered everything.
I think they could have included in a car of this wireless phone charger neither of which you get the rest of the cabin remains the same and while some might not like that it's all black and a little bit dull in here. You can't fault the quality which is just awesome fit and finish is just fabulous and everything is soft touch material right from the dash top to the door tops. The armrests now onto the way the tiguan drives and yes the big change is that it has a petrol engine we're pretty familiar with this 2-litre TSI engine by now we've seen it not just in the tiguan all space, but also like the skoda superb, skoda octavia and the audi q2 and a4 as well a healthy 190 horsepower and 320 newton metres are what you have to move you along and in this car that's slightly smaller and slightly lighter than the tiguan all space it feels just a little bit sprightlier in our autocad performance test it managed to get this still relatively large car from 0 to 100 in less than eight and a half seconds.
In case you were wondering but then again you might not be wondering that in a car like this because really it's not one of the most sportiest around yes it comes with a quick shifting dsg dual clutch auto gearbox and that lets it shift really quickly through its ratios but at the end of the day this is a more relaxed vehicle to drive in every
Sense even when you're absolutely flooring it the powertrain doesn't feel rushed it
goes along smoothly and it builds space quite quickly but it doesn't feel.
Similarly though the chassis offers good body control the all-wheel drive system offers really good grip this is not a car you want to hustle along very fast the steering doesn't feel particularly engaging and frankly it's just a lot more fun to drive at 9,10 so even 8,10. It's more of a cruiser and less of a corner cover that's for sure
and so when you do dial it back just a little bit you'll notice another facet of this car that's really impressive refinement the petrol engine is of course quieter than the old diesel and on top of that road and wind noise are impressively kept out of the cabin. This is complemented almost perfectly by the ride quality which is just superb the 18 inch wheels with their chunky tires really soak up a lot of the bumps and the suspension has been so well set up you can't hear it working in the background and it just takes everything and anything in its stride.
Yes you can feel that typically european underlying firm edge but for the most part this thing smothers out anything you can throw at it one thing you might need to keep your eye on is the fuel economy because this 2 litre TSI engine is notorious for changing its tune depending on your driving style drive it with a light foot and you could get decent numbers but the moment you start enjoying yourself .That number could dip significantly now here's the thing despite the shift from a diesel to a petrol engine and the fact that it is locally assembled this car is still pretty expensive it costs 32 lakh rupees x showroom. That puts it out of the league of the likes of the jeep compass and hyundai tuscon and closer to something like the citroen c5
moreover because it shifted from diesel to petrol you can no longer offset the higher purchase cost with lower running costs so for the small slice of the market that can make their peace with the sticker price and the running costs what they're getting is a premium suv that does just about everything near perfectly.
Overall,it's luxurious well made, well equipped comfortable refined spacious
and even pretty decent to drive in fact it still delivers on that promise that
VW made it is pretty much everything you want from a luxury suv at a slightly
lower price.
